The Virgin Islands Police Department has released the name of the officer who was wounded by gunfire in the line of duty during an armed robbery at Champs Sports Store in Sunny Isles. The officer’s name is Amalee Lockhart. Officer Lockhart graduated from the Police Academy in May 2010.

Officer Lockhart was shot in his left foot after suspects opened fire as they were exiting the sports store. Although Lockhart was released from the Governor Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center on Saturday and allowed to convalesce at home with family and friends, his injury is considered serious and requires additional medical treatment. Police Commissioner Henry W. White Jr. who visited Officer Lockhart at the hospital said “Officer Lockhart is known around the police station as avid runner. I want to insure that his love of running and his love of his chosen profession, policing, are not inhibited by his injury and his medical treatment brings him back to 100 percent.”

Police continue to actively seek these suspects. Detectives urge the public to say what they know about this case. If you have any information that would lead to the location or apprehension of these suspects please call detectives at 712-6037, 712-6077 or you can call Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-TIPS.
